MLM Recruiting Secrets – Read This Or Stay Broke
Part 1 of 3
After spending some time around the industry you begin to realize there are really no MLM recruiting secrets.
There are just simple things that top producers do that the majority of reps don’t do.
Sometimes the best place to keep a secret is in plain sight.
The real title of this post should “How To Do What You Know You Should Be Doing”.
After coaching thousands of people all over the world of all ages, races, and sexes you start to get a grip on what makes people tick.
Human nature by and large is pretty consistent.
People want to avoid pain, indulge in pleasure, find the path of least resistance and exercise as little discipline as possible.
It’s how we are.
But it’s not how top recruiters are.
Does Personal Recruiting Even Matter?
“But Jess I was told that I just needed to find 3 people and then those people would find 3 people and eventually I would be over riding an international team of reps and living the good life”
This may have happened to a few people in the industry but unfortunately they are the exception not the rule.
Truth is if you want to build a significant income in network marketing you will need to recruit a LOT of people personally.
You not only need to come to terms and accept this but you need to be excited about it!
Why do you need to recruit personally (width) and not just through your team?
Here’s how my brain gets down:
- The numbers don’t lie. Most people will quit faster than you can say getting started training and for a variety of reasons. Because you can’t go deep in a leg you haven’t started yet be prepared to run some numbers to find some people who want to go to work and build with you.
- Once you do have a few key people in place they are highly likely to do roughly 50% of what you do right and 100% of what you do wrong. Guess what they will do when they SEE YOU stop recruiting directs? You guessed it.
- If you haven’t had your top person quit on you than you haven’t been doing it long enough. It happens. Good people quit for a variety of reasons. And I’m not talking about new people. Your best most profitable successful people will likely leave at some point. The only insurance against this is to continue to actively recruit personally.
There ya go.

If Personal Recruiting Is So Important Why Do People Struggle With It?
This should be abundantly clear at this point but I’ll say it again.
Recruiting is the single most important skill set you can possess in Network Marketing.
It also seems to be what the majority struggle with.
Seems to me we have a BIG FAT problem here.
The simple answer is ultimately the same reason we struggle with anything.
It can almost always be boiled down to FEAR.
But let me take off the gloves with you here for a second.
That’s the canned network marketing trainer answer.
This post isn’t intended to make you feel like you’re walking on sunshine after you’re done reading.
Even if all this stings a little.
I want to give you the truth.
I want you to be successful.
That’s what I care about.
Are you sitting down? Because here’s the real answer.
The real reason you’re not recruiting like a top recruiter is because you’re lazy.
I know you don’t want to hear that.
“But Jess you don’t understand, I have kids, I have a demanding job, my spouse isn’t supportive, etc, etc”
Listen I have empathy for everyones specific situation. I really do.
But none of those reasons are going to get you any closer to your goals. And if they aren’t getting you closer to your goals then we need to accept them for what they really are:
A self fulfilling prophecy that says: “I can’t do it”.
Let me clarify what I mean when I say 9 out of 10 reps are lazy.
Most people don’t or won’t spend their time on the things that make them a top recruiter.
These 3 “secrets” in my humble opinion are:
- How You See Yourself
- How Others See You
- What You Say

Fear is definitely at the heart of why people struggle but that fear is there due to A LACK OF SKILL pertaining to these three “secrets” of recruiting.
It is my belief that competence breeds confidence.
When you KNOW that you KNOW, fear steps aside and the “secret magic” takes over.
How You See Yourself
MLM recruiting starts with you.
What do you BELIEVE about you?
Most people struggle to recruit others because they haven’t figured out how to recruit themselves yet.
You’re not sold on you!
Consider who you are being and where you are really coming from before you ever recruit someone.
Really where are you coming from?
Attempting to do something that requires strength, confidence, and proper form from a place of weakness, uncertainty and fear is how you get hurt.
People are magnetized to someone who is supremely confident about who they are at their core.
Someone who is absolutely unwavering in their beliefs.
It’s an almost intangible indescribable power that people who are top recruiters have.
They have “IT”.
And “IT” wasn’t something most people are born with or something that was bestowed upon them.
It’s something you conjure from deep within yourself by having total clarity on what drives you and the having a deep honest KNOWING about the real power we all possess.
I’m not talking about some “fake it till you make it” or “act as if” philosophy.
I’m saying ACT AS ARE.
Get in touch with the power and confidence you really do have inside and then BE that person. Come from that position of strength and knowing.
How To Program Yourself To Recruit On Command
Changing how you see yourself is sometimes easier said than done.
Like I said the way top recruiters carry themselves can sometimes seem like some sort of effortless mystical mutant power.
And for some people it is.
You probably don’t want to hear that but some people have had a high level of confidence and resolve from birth.
But for the rest of us we need to actively work on programming our minds so we can consistently carry ourselves this way.
“What do you mean consistently Jess?”
“You mean if I don’t actively program my mind daily I could go back to thinking the way I was before”
Think of your mind like a glass of clean water.
If there is dirt or grime (negative disempowering thoughts) in the water the only way to filter the water and clean the glass is to consistently pour in clean water (positive reaffirming thoughts/images/emotions).
The reality is the world is going to constantly be depositing dirt in your glass everyday.
Our only option is to pour positive programming into our minds daily to sustain this state of supreme confidence and posture.
The very best ways to reprogram how you think are in my experience:
- Reading daily
- Visualization daily
- Affirmations daily
Remember these are activities you need to do daily for an extended period of time to see work, just like working out and eating well.

Something Magical Is About To Happen To You
If you apply what is taught in the resources above daily you’re going to notice you start feeling different about who you are and what you’re capable of.
When your belief about what you CAN do changes your resistance to what you know you should be doing also changes.
Your new beliefs about yourself will lead to more inspired, confident action.
You’re also going to notice people feeling different about you.
They are going to start getting a different vibe from you.
Because you have literally changed the way you vibrate.
You’ve changed the signals you subconsciously put out.
Now here’s the fun part.
When you do this naturally over time you are going to start to have more success.
People become attracted to who you are, your confidence, your belief.
And they join you.
As this begins to happen you all of a sudden start to form what I like to call references.
A reference is something your mind draws from typically when it needs to make a decision about something.
For instance when you have a moment of self doubt (yes these moments still happen even after ALL the re-programming) you’re going to wonder:
- Can I recruit?
- Why would someone join me?
- Am I worthy
When you have these thoughts your mind is going to immediately start scanning for references.
And guess what it now has to draw on?
You guessed it! Those little wins you’re picking up because of the reprogramming.
Your mind now thinks:
- I’ve done this before!
- It wasn’t as hard as I thought!
- If I did it once I can do it again!
Your mind draws on these thoughts and KNOWS them to be true.
This is now your reality.
People will look at you and think
- “How do they do that?”
- “They make it look so easy”
- “I can’t describe it but they just have IT”
You’ve successfully changed your self identity.
You’ve changed the way you see yourself.
Changing the way you see yourself is really just the beginning to becoming a great recruiter.
